The Limes is very close to the local parish church (St John the Baptist), which is worth popping in for quick view of its fine room. The Limes itself occupies two buildings on the High Street. There is a narrow passage at the side that leads to a large car park at the rear. It has recently been re-opened and there seems to be much work to do, especially to the exterior areas. Inside, it was very quiet. The place seems to continue serving as a hotel and there are a couple of large function rooms, in addition to the front bar and a lounge to the rear. The only other customer was in the lounge. Greene King IPA was the solitary real ale. The barman was chatty. But, this place has clearly seen better days. Hopefully the new owners will continue to revive it. blue_scrumpy - 2 Jun 2019 17:30 |
A short walk up the High Street from the Swan and the place to drink is the pub / bar that is part of the Limes Hotel. It has a separate entrance from the hotel which brings you into a square room with timber beams and a large open fireplace. Behind the fireplace is an arch and a small tunnel running through it, most unusual. Only 1 ale on which was GK Abbot Ale so it was onto the bottled ales, so a cold bottle of Old Golden Hen was purchased. We stopped here just for 1 drink before moving on, a nice enough bar / pub but with only 3 other punters in and no tv or music it was a bit quiet for a Saturday afternoon. lezford - 5 Dec 2016 13:32 |
Excellent meal and beer! Lovely place would highly recommend, even though it's owned by a Cattermole. Simonipswich - 23 Sep 2011 22:34 |
I really like this pub. Last Saturday lunchtime I had a fine pint of Landlord and a suet steak and merlot pudding which was very yummy and worth all of 10. I usually sit in the front (Bugs) bar, it has more character and is quieter, so good for an adult lunch with a friend. The back bar tends to fill up with families eating I know nothing about the hotel LilyMarlene - 22 Feb 2010 22:21 |
We did bed and breakfast here. The downstairs pub is fine. Ale is fine with a reasonable choice. But the hotel is a mare. They messed up our booking. And talking about messes...the room...oh dear. Dirty. Beyond redecoration. Obvious signs that our room had been burgled...from the side window and the corridor door. Breakfast was plentiful, but quite greasey. And with this in mind the price of the room was a complete rip off at 85. Have a drink here. Do not stay here. The score of 5 is for the pub! tski - 10 Jun 2008 22:00 |
