Always been nice here for just a drink, comfortable sofas etc but I have eaten here a few times recently after hearing good reports.
Food is good quality and reasonably priced with great thick, crispy real chips. Service is good as the pub is well staffed friendly too.
On each of three occasions everyone in our group (5 or 7 people) said the food was excellent.
My one gripe, really petty I know, is in a pub where they take care in what they serve and that goes to the trouble of making real chips, why do they serve those disgusting frozen onion rings that are made from mushed onion. It surely can't be too much trouble to cut and batter a few fresh onion rings to go with a steak. If it is just leave them off.

Rated 8/10 (1 off for the onion rings)

This is a friendly pub, meals are great value for money and the surroundings are nicely decorated to make it feel contemporay but cosy. The staff are freindly and we have eaten there a few time. Fully converted now they will be seeing us more and more. The fish from the specials board is always good. Well done Black Lake for getting it spot on.

I went to The Black Lake Inn for lunch with my mother, this was my first...(and last) visit. We asked for two coffees when we went in, the coffee looked fine, but there was no taste at all, I don't like strong coffee, but this was like drinking hot water with froth on the top. I ordered the fish pie of the special menu, when it arrived I emptied the pie out on the plate, and frankly I've never seen anything that looked or tasted so disgusting there were a few prawns scattered in a load of mashed potato, no sign or taste of any other fish at all, an incredibly strong garlic taste, this was sent back, and replaced with sweet and sour chicken, which was slightly better. We then decided to chance a sweet, I asked if any of them were home made, to which I was told the rice pudding was, my mother ordered the baileys cheesecake, and I settled on the rice pudding.....Big mistake!!! The cheese cake was actually an ice-cream dessert, and the rice pudding was the crappiest tinned stuff ever!!! I can only say, that we were not charged for the coffees...( that we didn't drink). I can only say don't waste your money going here for a meal, but very nice surroundings if you only want a drink
