This pub is now transformed from it's lacklustre days by the new Management team headed by Jackie. The Coachman has just won Cask Marque status for the fine quality of it's beer and ales, and the food is pretty good too. The Coachman serves a varied menu of pub staples all home cooked and made from locally sourced ingredients. Food is served from Thursday to Sunday. Whilst Thursday Friday and Saturday nights are steak nights. We had a great Steak meal on Thursday, cooked to perfection served with homemade chips onion rings grilled tomato and salad. They also do a great 3 course Sunday lunch special for £10 per person which includes soup, an enormous full roast with all the trimmings and a pudding. Make sure you go hungry!! The Coachman also has a large self contained function room which can hold up to 130 people and is available to hire for free. They also have a special party for £99 offer which includes room hire and a buffet for up to 100 people. They are happy to cater for any event from children's parties, charity events, family parties, funerals. Ring and speak to Jackie and she will be more than happy to help. The Coachman is a great friendly pub tucked away in a leafy corner of Whickham. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good night out in an old fashioned pub with great service, great beer and friendly locals.

I totally agree with "anonymous" of 1 May 2007. The area deserves better than this!

Feels like the Coachman's is stuck in a timewarp. The bar is like a working man's club, the restaurant is like a canteen and I can't stand the sauces in sachets!

The Coachmans is a great pub, and has been recently refurbished (April 2005) It's suitable for both families and hardcore drinkers alike. It focuses on Italian food now rather than traditional pub meals.
