A true traditional English village pub. Always a warm welcome in either saloon or public bar. TV room at back showing sports events, and a quiet and well kept pleasant garden out at the back, also some seating outside at the front. Good food available but check the times, not all day food. During winter weather open fires in both the bars. Very cosy. Dog friendly, with water bowls left out and dog biscuits at the bar (10p each to charity). Ask the bar staff to replenish if needed.
The landlord really knows his real ale and keeps it very well. Several normal house bitters available, including one very local micro-brewery, plus a couple of interesting guest ales, covering the spectrum from "session" to "strong". Also, for those who prefer lager, there are several available.

The coming of a new landlord here has changed this pub beyond all recognition. The stark white decor has been replaced by rich creams and reds, the walls are full of pictures and leather sofas abound. Sport has been moved into the back bar and the front is now a place to drink good ale, to mix with ones friends and to eat traditional pub grub. I had the Liver and bacon with mash and diced root vegetables and I couldn't believe it cost me just £8. My pal had a great big plate of ham, eggs and chips and that was only £9. I had a lovely pint of Triple fff Moondance, my pal loved his Firebird Two Horses and we both had a Ringwood 49er in wonderful condition to send us on our way. They also sell Doom Bar and guest beers. Dogs and children are welcome, the floors are polished wood and there is a cracking garden. I'll be back very soon.

Think some of these comments are a bit unfair. The pub seems to have a bar for the lads on the left and for the older locals on the right. I fit into the latter. I call in maybe once a week for a couple and the staff are friendly and so are the locals if your willing to smile and say hello when you enter. They do not know me from Adam as am not originally from the area but get the same hospitality each time. Nice to see proper pub dogs as well.Beer is very good, nice selection, and the pumps are well used so no lingering after taste.Good pub so don't let the bad reviews put you off, try it!

Shame but have found this pub has gone downhill over the last year.
