£4.30 for 2 halves of cooking bitter. A chipped glass. Depressed looking bar staff.
Avoid at all costs.

This pub is on the fine line between grotty & quaint. I lean to grotty. Looks reasonably flash outside but decayed within. I was charged 4.15 for a pint of Landlord, a good 45p more than any other of the 20 Manchester pubs I visited this trip. Needless to say the service was less than pleasant, as if they were seeking a full suite of black marks.

I had a bad experience here last Summer. It’s a pub I’ve liked for years & with my girlfriend stopped for a quick pint on a sunny late afternoon. Got our beers & sat at trestle table outside. It promptly toppled backwards so we were flat on our backs, shaken up & covered with beer. I went inside to report the incident & the landlady wasn’t at all sympathetic or interested. I pointed out that several couples were sitting on the same side of similar tables to watch sport on TV so there was obviously something wrong with this table. “Nothing I can do about it” was her response. Didn’t even offer a replacement drink. Disgraceful. Avoid this pub.

A traditional pub that was fairly busy on our Sunday afternoon visit. Football was being shown on the TVs. Service was hard to come by, despite the fact there were 3 bar staff all looking bored. Whilst they noticed the regular walk in behind us, they failed to acknowledge us for a good few minutes, despite still not having anybody else to serve. The ales were all fairly average - Flowers Original, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin & Taylor Landlord. The Flowers was past its best. Promised much, but offered little.

Me and my friends have lived in castlefield for over 10 years and regularly enjoyed drinks and football at the White Lion. Until last night that is. We had a couple of drinks in the sun before heading in to watch the AC Milan/Barca game. A this point the owner began lambasting one of the bar staff for having the football on 2 TVs but only sound coming out of one of them. As the barman quite rightly pointed out the TVs were showing 2 different games, so having the volume up on both would have been pointless. She continued to abuse the member of staff in front of all the customers, who fell deadly silent. He complained to her about swearing at him in front of the customers again, so this is obviously a frequent occurrence. As customers we felt incredibly awkward and decided to tell the owner this. Her exact words were 'you don't have to work with him!'. Now I manage people and I would be horrified if one of my team said that to a customer. You hired him for God's sake and besides he had done a cracking job of serving us. After saying this to the owner we were literally told to 'F@ck off!' At which shocked point, we thanked the barstaff for their service and made the decision to never step foot in there again. This woman is dragging one of Manchester's finest boozers in to the ground!
