Have visited several times since my review 29 Dec 2010 and haven't changed opinion. BUT, visited Sunday lunchtime recently and this is definitely a time to avoid.
The place seemed to be full of Pikeys with kids. Buggies everywhere, toys all over the floor and the sound of wailing. It would help if there was a designated family area, but there's not.
Still recommended, but not for Sunday lunch !

By the way, I've just re-read the review by jeanbexter and am puzzled at how she can state that the food was "high quality" and "local" when she hadn't actually tried it. And the wine was "amazing" Also the lack of command of English displayed leaves me breathless. Is she an employee of the pub ?

Visited this pub for lunch with some friends today, it has had a major make over, it is trendy yet so warm, the staff were great really empressed, the lady who runs it was friendly and welcoming, I was so empressed I booked a table for next Saturday for me and my girlfriend, we wil tell all our family and friends about this little gem.

Visited today. Don't confuse with the previous Ember Inn, it's been refurbished and is now more restaurant than pub and all the better for it !
Staff are bright and enthusiastic, beers limited, but there's an extensive selection of cocktails, which is a clear indication of the market they're aiming at. Menu very imaginative and food excellent, with friendly service and good wine list.
A nice eating experience, but not cheap.

I visited this pub last night and was amazed what this bar has been turned into. The back bar looked upmarket and current. The staff were welcoming and friendly although I do belive some should think outside the box! I didn't eat there but would highly recommend it as what I saw come out on the plate was of high quality fresh and used local and seasonal products. All the customers were of high demographic and new what they wanted. The beer was of good taste. Shame doom bar and Fullers on at the same time! Whiskey was of good range and wine was amazing list. I fully recommend this gastro pub to any one for a quick drink, lunch with friends or an passionate meal with a love one as the candel light and mood lighting sets a great tone. Well done guys and girls. Great referband the land lady is fun and of chatty personalty, just what the pub needed.
