I'd been to this pub a few times before last night and I seem to remember it used to have a reputation for doing quite special food and having some decent beer. They used to do roast duck hearts as a bar snack! I went along last night for the first time in a year or more and the place was virtually empty with only Landlord and London Pride on. Had a pint of the Pride which was below average sadly. Couldn't see any sign of decent food either. Quite sad because the service was friendly! Maybe I went at the wrong time. Went there for lunch. Food average, with small portions; one of us had the fish and chips and the piece of fish was hardly bigger than the chips ! Beers good but expensive but it is a pleasant place to be in with friendly efficient staff. We were not so pleased that a 12.5% service charge was added to entire bill, including beers orderd from the bar, which put another 50p or so on to a pint of the already expensive beers. Advice is to pay for deinks separately as you buy them. Jimdee - 10 Feb 2012 12:24 |
Recently went in a large group for a 'gastro pub' dinner. Nice pub, beer good, but not cheap, and generally a boozer, with outside seating. However, as far as food & Service went, the place is far from meeting expectations. Food was lousy and over-priced as if put together by someone who watched one of these masterchef programs on TV and thought I can do that!, the service was poor and amaturish, overall would not return for food but maybe a pint. bloodylimey - 19 Dec 2011 16:50 |
It has an outside space that get the sun. It does decent beers that are always well kept. The bar snacks are great - home cured salami and freshly fried warm runny Scotch eggs etc. Their menu is creative and tasty and well priced. So why the lowish score? Twice I have left a card behind the bar when having drinks only, to find a service charge added when I came to pay. If you bring me my beers with a smile I wouldn't mind. This brings me to my second point - service. If you get served by the young chap expect smiles and service. If you get served by the landlady, then expect to move on to the next pub after you finish your pint. Nilbymouthbutbeer - 10 Aug 2011 14:03 |
