Worth the walk up the hill from the quay, this cosy pub is Grade II listed and suitably appointed with large fireplace, ceiling beams, wooden floor etc. We weren't there to eat but the Sunday menu offered more enticing and adventurous dishes than other pubs we came across in the area. Slightly disappointing range of beers (Sharp's Sea Fury, Adnams Ghost Ship and Ringwood Best) and only Thatchers cider. But at least the Sea Fury was pretty good. paul_d102 - 5 Jun 2017 21:40 |
Pub with potential. Nice beer but shame about the landlady. Our party of two couples were refused food at 8:30 pm despite it being apparently still on offer according to the sign board outside. We were told that there was only one tochef in the kitchen - how many chefs do you get in one kitchen? Definitely one to avoid. Chil.SW - 30 Dec 2014 12:39 |
Apparently the oldest pub in Swanage, it is located a little out of the town centre. The pub is split into 2 rooms with their own bars. Very rare these days. The righthand bar is designated a family room. The left hand room has a small bar in the corner with 3 real ales. There are flagstones on the floor and large brick fireplace. Must be very homely in the winter when it is lit. There are separate wooden tables and chairs so doesn't score very highly on comfort. Toilets are a bit of an anachronism since they are outside but at least they are clean. Food is rather expensive but similar to other pubs in the town. Very friendly though and the pub dog will keep you amused for hours! boozers_knows - 21 Oct 2013 11:24 |
Nice food, great service and beer and wine excellent. Also squeezed us in at short notice, can't fault this place. drg8844 - 31 Mar 2013 23:23 |
Had another Hobgoblin in a Hobgoblin glass together with a Sunday roast. Thank God there was a family room for the screaming brat who ruined lunch for the mums on Mothering Sunday. I had a bit of peace in the bar. There are some lovely LSWR railway posters in the family room. Landlady has run pub for over three years now and made it into a pleasant family pub.
