Excellent local beers and restaurant quality food topped with a friendly welcome and chat from the manager. As someone mentioned earlier a good circular walk from Moretonhampstead. Good luck to the new staff.

Fantastic looking pub in a timeless village.
Only had a couple as we had to continue our walk. Nice pint of ale.

8/10

This pub changed ownership in December 2008 - hurray!! It's now got a welcoming landlord, a very good menu, an interesting and varied wine list and the beer is well-kept and includes Otter and Tribute. The whole place has been painted and spruced up and they've re-vamped the five bedrooms. the dilapidated thatch has been replaced too. As a local, it's great to have this place back on form after years of being dire.
If you've had a bad experience before - please give it another chance!

On the face of it, this place should be the pub of your dreams. 13th century thatched hostelry in one of Dartmoor's prettiest villages. However, on the couple of occasions I've been in it, it's proved to be something of a letdown. If you closed your eyes, you might think you were in west London. It seems to be frequented by a bunch of city traders. Unfortunately, they're probably the only people who can afford to live there nowadays.

Oh, for the sound of a Devonian accent!
