| Unfortunately closed, and permanently I think... Malpas is a lovely place, but a barren wasteland in drinking terms. The Crown was being refurbished on my week visit in August 2020... The Vaults looks like a refugee hostel! Your only two current places to drink are the Fire Station cafe bar or the sports club, both good at differing ends of the price scale. | Taken from the book Strangest pubs in Britain. The chair King James I used is still here and a tradition states that if you sit in the chair you must pay a penny for the privilege, or pay for a round of drinks for everyone.
