user reviews of the Six Gold Martlets, Burgess Hill

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Wetherspoons Burgess Hill was formally two empty shops which have been knocked into one. Some effort has been made to add character this new establishment as a ‘local’ with pictures of ‘The South Downs’ and old Sussex.
It’s a long time since I saw conveniences as modern and clean, they really are a cut above what you might expect but I can’t see this area remaining like it for long. I should add that they are up on the second floor so be careful of the stairs. The bar service is good with a good selection of reasonably priced guest ales and the glasses are clean.

But that is as far as it goes. After a good start standards have slipped. In busy times the kitchen struggles to meet demand on quite basic but cheap pub food. The surfaces of the tables and some of the well used seating are generally sticky and the self service table for adding milk and sugar is generally a mess and the teaspoons regularly 'walk'. The staff who serve are pleasant and obliging but piles of dirty crockery are often left on the tables indicating that they are not employing enough people to cope in busy times.

It is a busy place but not somewhere that you would want to recommend to anyone used to better standards of service or culinary skills. It meets demand on the basis of price and it is reflected in the customers it serves.
