Intimidating, bully of an owner. VERY disappointed!!! I went into the Ale House for a drink with my partner early on Friday evening. I took a call from my son which I had to put on loud speaker due to the speaker on my phone being broken (it was no different to having someone else sat on the table talking to me) The next thing I know I’m be shouted at in an aggressive manner by an red faced scarecrow looking man and his group. This man was absolutely awful about me being on my phone and was set on humiliating me. The whole pub came to silence and watched whilst he shouted at me stating he was the owner and to get off my phone, the table next to us stated they could not hear us on the phone and my partner also stated she could not hear my conversation with my son. If this man is the owner ,he has a very nasty and threatening way of dealing with two females who have gone in for a drink on a Friday evening. Never in all my years have I been shouted at in front of a pub of people by an owner. If my call was bothering him (and he is more than entitled to have expectations in his pub) all he had to do was come and speak to me, not shout so loudly to ‘shut up’ and humiliate me in front everyone in the pub. It’s such a shame as we often pop in for a drink and a game of bar billiards and the staff have always been lovely. TRULY AWFUL experience and an awful and intimidating man who is nothing but a bully. Now I understand why it’s always empty. KFAZ - 29 Jul 2023 09:31 |
Grade II Listed building - impressive high ceilings and loads of space. Like an independent Wetherspoons! Architecture is where the similarity ends. This is a proper beer lovers pub - with a wide range of beers on offer - all detailed on slates over the long bar. I went for a breakfast stout - which was perfect. Sunday night quiz seemed impossible :-) Not knowing the height in feet of Angel Falls, Venezuela, we sat on some wonderful Chesterfields in front of a superb open fire. Lots to admire! Headed here because it looked the most appealing of Stroud's town centre pubs from the outside. Fortunately, our decision proved inspired. Salopian Super Collider, Vibrant Forest Kick-Start/Summit, Tiley's Amarillo Centennial Pale Ale, Artisan Ales PA01, Burning Sky Plateau, Lincoln Green Spring Green, Electric Bear NZ Pale and Crouch Vale Brewers Gold were on sale as well as Olivers Gold Rush cider. Not quite full marks as too many pale ales but the beers I tried were all in very good condition. paul_d102 - 1 Apr 2018 20:12 |
Agreed easily the best pub in Stroud. Was also very impressed. Very good choice of beer, and a good variety of styles. Also impressed by the staff and have had bar food on the couple of occasions I've been. Covers all bases very well and a genuine 9/10 pub in my view as well. mike_s - 23 Jan 2017 18:57 |
The building looks like it used to be something else but now it is simply an ale house. Plenty of decent brews on offer and the staff were friendly and convivial. Probably your best bet for an ale in Stroud town centre. anonymous - 18 Oct 2015 10:35 |
