Previously called The Bulls Head, The Tipsy Fisherman and recently the Stream Trumpet, this is now The Reservoir... Nice pub that used to be from the Steamin Billy stable (Not sure if it is or not now, but they sell Steamin Billy Beers...Seems to be a sister pub of The Windmill @ Brascote near Newbold Verdon). Tastefully decorated, and whilst geared for food, also preserving plenty of bar area for drinkers only. Beers were the Steamin Billy house beers, Billy Bitter, Tipsy Fisherman and Skydiver, along with a Charnwood brewery guest called Try Hopper. Personally, I think the Billy Bitter and Tipsy Fishermen are good bets, as I think there are better full bodied beers than Skydiver. Always good Ciders and lagers as well; Symonds Founders Reserve, Sagres, San Miguel all on draught. Whilst Thornton is a pretty un-remarkable village, it is lifted by the reservoir, and it is definitely worth parking up and walking the 3 mile or so round trip, cutting back up to the village by the pretty church.

Friendly village pub with good local ales from the Steamin' Billy brewery. It's a late Victorian pub, nicely decorated inside whilst retaining period features and some history about the nearby Leicester-Swannington railway (one of the first in the UK, back in 1832). Good pub food but still with plenty of local drinkers.
