Sad to read the bad reviews on this Pub, I spent many happy times in The Handpost and The Three Salmons, way back in the mid 90's when I was a Student up there, living in Bassaleg, they were our favourite Pubs at the time, both Ansells Pubs too, if I remember correctly.......

I've been a regular here for over 25 years, creature 4's review of 4/7/10 is accurate, not sure about voisin's review of 21/09/10, I suspect it's a bit 'tongue-in-cheek'. However, the pub continues it's spiral downward, it really is going from bad to worse, it's becoming populated by low life and scum, most of whom come to watch the football which seems to be permanently on and really does attract the wrong sort, drinking to excess, being loud and agressive, and using foul language. The landlady and staff continue to serve alcohol to these people who have already consumed far too much and in my view it's totally irresponsible. It is a great shame the pub has sunk to this level as not that long ago it was one of the best pubs in Newport, it's only saving grace now is that the beer (real ales) are still pretty good. Certainly not the place to take a lady !!

I think reviewer of the 4th. July is a bit unfair and is probably Badger. What does concern me is that Landlady's husband, the incorrigible Winston, has not been seen for many a month, there is a funny smell coming from upstairs and the rocking chair from the snug has gone missing !

Beer quality not good. Landlady does not stop jabbering very loudly about her personal life to her family in the lounge. Her family who serve behind the bar and unfriendly and gloomy. Landladies grandson of about five years old constantly running around pub screaming. Pub going downhill rapidly.
