user reviews of the Ship, West Hanningfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I've popped in a number of times over the last year when the car park in my regular pub is full up (despite there being no-one in there on wednesday's) and have been very impressed by the quality and selection of real ales on offer. Often an Adnams Broadside or something similar in the late 4.0abv's. Food can be still a little pricey so you have to choose wisely. Beer festival in the summer (which I missed). A good, friendly place - firmly on my list for 2013.

Just went for a quick drink before collecting our son from near by but decided to stay to eat when he told us he would be delayed. The food was absolutely fantastic, I had the cod and prawn cakes with chips and salad. For 6.95 I was expecting quite a small portion but no - I struggled to finish. Hubby had a cheeseburger (a regular choice in pubs) and said it was one of the best. The staff were attentive and friendly without being overbearing. This is a brilliant pub.

Went in here yesterday for lunch for first time in .... well, bloomin' ages. And was glad I did. Excellent food (both main course and desserts homecooked) and 3 pints of Real Ale to choose from - the two I had (Spitfire and Broadside) both well kept.

Landlady and staff very friendly - turns out she took it over about a year ago and can only say she's doing an excellent job so far.

I'll be back!!! :-) 8/10
