user reviews of the Forest Lodge Hotel, Edwinstowe

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The restaurant was full at lunchtime today so we ate from the same menu in the equally busy, cosy, traditional bar next to the open fire. The regular ales are Bombardier (£3.15) and their "own" Welbeck Abbey Pale Ale (£2.90) whilst today's guests were all from the Crouch Vale Brewery in Essex - Essex Boys Best Bitter, Yakima Gold & Punch (£2.90-£2.95). All 4 pints I tried were in very good order, befitting a pub that is the local CAMRA branch's Nottinghamshire Pub of the Year 2013. Food was equally good.

The Forest Lodge Hotel is just that. It is more of a hotel than a pub. We stopped here for a Sunday lunch and a swift half after a visit to nearby Sherwood Forest. Two beers from the nearby Welbeck Abbey brewery were on - English Pale Ale & Elis Swwet Dark Mild. I sampled the mild which was fine. Also on were Morland Original & Wells Bombardier. There is a large dining hall with attached drinking area to the left as you enter from the car park, whilst to the right is the quiet public bar. The young staff were fairly friendly. Sunday lunch was nothing to shout about.

Visited the area over a weekend and popped into the pub on both the Friday and Saturday nights.

Over that short period we managed to try six different beers as they seem to have four on at any time and swap them over frequently.

Friendly fast service and a great atmosphere.
