user reviews of the Portsdown Inn, Portsmouth

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The last incident (of many) is what finally got the pub shut down. Admiral Taverns legal team realised there was zero hope of getting it re-licensed so they had no option but to put it up for sale. Inept landlady Julie allowed gangsters to hold meetings there, allowed travellers in after hours, as well as the many unemployed benefits claimants to frequent the place. They got double brave after wasting the benefits money on Stella and Cocaine then at end of night get upset realising they have spent all their money and will have no more for another 2 weeks, and have nothing in their shit and piss stained bedsit to eat or drink.
However one time in the early hours of January, a little shit came at 02:37 hrs armed with a baseball bat and a can of lighter fuel with the intentions of quickly smashing some windows and reaching in to set fire to the curtains. He succeeded in quickly smashing some windows. When he reached in one of the after hours drinkers grabbed his hand, and the other five travellers had already run around the back of he pub -to the front and pounced. They beat him up, pulled his trousers down ,poured the lighter fuel on his penis , tried to ignite it but failed, so told him they will let him go, but not before breaking both his legs and re-beating him up one time more.
Probably served the little faggot right.
One time before, a car and motorbike in car park was set ablaze in a row over unpaid drugs money. Another time a man was smashed in the face with an ale handled jug breaking his jaw, teeth, eye socket, and leaving permanent facial disfigurement.
A revenge attack followed 4 days later when a man in disguise as a pensioner with walking stick suddenly grabbed the jug hitter and bit off the man's ear and placed it in the gutter at the side of the pub.
The police were even absolutely terrified of entering this establishment and only did so heavily backed up with tasers drawn and riot shields in hand.

Julie Manns was without doubt the worst landlady /pub operator that has ever operated in England & Wales.

"That night a man attacked the pub with a baseball bat, angry at having been barred the week before. However, he did not know there was an illegal lock-in taking place at the time and several people came out, beating him severely"

Closed and converted into a supermarket of sorts in early 2012.
Don't mourn though, it was shut "Before someone was killed" on police advise after a series of violent incidents involving locals and the incumbent tenants...baseball bats, swords and GBH charges ahoy, and someones severed ear found in the car park after it was bitten off.
I was told by an ex-regular that I probably wouldn't have liked it!

OMG!

I have drank in here half a dozen times, but I've got to say - ifyou're able to read this, don't go there!

It makes Beirut look quiet!!

On the good side - the best (take away) Curry house in the whole area is dead opposite(Leith Tandoori).

I used to pop into pub while waiting for food - I now get them to deliver!....
