Solid, dependable and well-run. Friendly bar staff and regulars, local and national newspapers, rugby league memorabilia, jukebox, pool table, and very fair prices. Has been my local for years, ever since I got tired of the landlord turnover at the Cherries.

There's some right old tosh in some of the earlier comments. I'm 49, have been going three or four nights a week for about five years, generally late evening, and I've never seen the police there, only once seen a fight there, and that was the only time I've ever seen someone thrown out (and he richly deserved it), and I've seen one person asked to leave. When they say they have a strict no-tolerance drug policy, they actually mean it. There are pubs in Wigan which have trouble with their clientele, but this isn't one of them.

I've never seen anyone refused a go at karaoke, including me, and I can't sing, and rarely pick a song anyone likes. So you carry on spouting tripe, and I'll carry on drinking at Sam's Bar Scholes.

Well Well Well..forgot about this place well i hoped i had ha ha. you have to visit this place to see how bad it really is seriously. you cannot break wind without being thrown out by the (mr big man landlord.) unless you are about 20 years of age or younger you are not welcome here. they love there youngsters at this place. after hours for poker upstairs too. the karaoke as already described has to be tried. the d.j woman criticizes every song you do.. then comes the "family fun days" barbecued bacteria home cooked by the landlord.. MR J.C.(no food hygiene certificate there i bet). kids running wild whilst their parents get wasted outside. then when they can't take their beer beer any more. they start fighting. windows go thorough. police turn up... pity because this used to be a decent pub when it wasthe ball and boot. then the new landlady took over dragged it right down to what it is now. shameless springs to
mind when i think about this place.. same sort of people. the regulars will intimidate and try to wind you up to the point you almost end up fighting to... keep well clear of this pub you could end up being arrested..

have to agree with ALMIGHTYGOD. this pub is not a nice place to visit. if your not a regular you get leered at all night the people and staff are absolutly terrible. you will wait at the bar all night waiting to get served whilst all the regulars get their drinks. then and only then will you get yours. you will see a fight at least once a night. karaoke is only for those of us who are blessed with the ability to sing. (they wont let you up again if not) as mentioned in the other comment. this pub needs knocking down it's a menace to society.. out of 10.... big fat 0

Fantastic pub. if you like drugs and fights. the landlord loves to throw his weight around. and you if you look the wrong way. the landlady is a discrace disrespectful to customers no manners at all. beer is like urine. the karaoke nights are ok just as long as you pick a song that everyone likes. and if you can't sing you got no chance of EVER getting up again.. out of 10 this pub gets 1 stay away you have been warned

Good pub, ale good at a reasonable price. friendly regulars and a great team running it. You'll not find better bar staff anywhere.
