The Griffin was always a popular pub, and I used to drink here with my mates in the late eighties and nineties… Back then it was always heaving with students drinking lager. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I ventured in last weekend with my other half and the dog. The pub is nicely decorated, with both large open areas and smaller nooks and crannies. The outside courtyard is a dream on a summer’s day, with a covered patio and a large screen TV. We had a fantastic meal and a few pints whilst watching the ashes... It’s a Marston’s pub, and I’m not going to suggest this will rival Loughborough’s real ale pubs, but that said, it’s still a decent pub. Beers were IPA and 61 Deep, along with a scrumpy on hand pull. I personally settled for 2 or 3 Hobgoblin chilled IPA’s which hit the mark. I will definitely return..

It's definitely better than the old reviews so far suggest it is. Friendly staff and a decent draught cider. Clientele no problem either. Safe recommend for the undemanding drinker.

Don't know what to make of this place. Feels like a less charming version of the Unicorn. Nice enough inside, reasonable range of drinks and conveniently located in the centre of town but I wouldn't go out of my way to drink there.

Nice design and furnishings but this was spoilt by the unfriendly bar staff (apart from manager!) and expensive drink prices. We went along for the pub quiz on a Sunday, but when the 'quiz master' turned up (late) they decided not to bother with it.

What an unpleasant experience this was. Went for a meal, told to sit anywhere. Moved away from one area by staff. Moved on AGAIN by the landlord - "those seats are reserved". When we asked where we could sit he was rude. Rushed into ordering food. Food mediocre, and cold. We obviously weren't drinking enough because they came and asked us to pay up (presumably meaning pay up and go).
I wouldn't recommend this pub for anyone. Best avoided, thoroughly nasty.
