user reviews of the Bacchus, Telford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Bacchus closed about three or four years ago and was split into two commercial units. We thought that was the end but for some reason one half has been recently refurbished and reopened under the old name. What a wasted opportunity. This could have been a good real ale micro pub to take some of the pressure off the very popular Pheasant. What we have is a smart but bland bar selling fizzy garbage with no real ale. It adds nothing extra to what is on offer in the other pubs around the market square so what is the point?

The Bacchus has improved slightly and has had a minor make-over with a new landlord. There are a couple of real ales and it is very close to Wellington railway station. Could be even better!!!

After ETAs review from a couple of weeks ago I went into this pub with some trepidation. It is getting a bit shabby as were some of the clientele. Its mainly one room with another area to the rear that obviously used to be a separate room. Theres a dartboard and a quiz machine in the rear area. There were 3 handpumps on the bar but only 2 in use selling Banks bitter and Wychwood Wizards Staff. I ordered a pint of the Wychwood, fully expecting it to be a poor pint. Happily I was wrong and the pint was pretty good. Its not a great place but Ive been in a lot worse places in Wellington (Black Horse, Rasputins, Three Crowns, Pheasant to name but a few).

Dreadfully downtrodden, shabby interior, smelly and dog-earred. A pity, because I've previously had good experiences in here, but my last was not so. The beer was putrid and the air was rancid from stale smoke drifting in from the door to the smoking area.

I shall continue to pop in every now and again out of sheer optimism, but I wouldn't recommend this pub just at the moment, especially when there are better pubs (in every respect) within a few minutes' walk.
