user reviews of the Stan Laurel Inn, Ulverston

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Stan Laurel is a lovely pub tucked away off the main drag, this was my last tick in the town from the current GBG.

As expected by the name its a shrine to Laurel and Hardy, with many figures, pictures and other various memorabilia from their career along the walls & bar area.

Busy at 9pm when we arrived, with most of the punters being over 50 yrs old, good to see most of the punters tucking into ale.

Music played at an un-intrusive level, and I can happily say the music was excellent.

6 ales available, 5 from Cumbria and the other one from Thwaites in Lancashire. I had several pints of Ulverston’ s Celebration Ale @ 3.9%, what a cracking ale that is.

In the room to the right is a full sized pool table with lights above it, also in this room is a tv that's on for sport, there’s also a bit of sport memorabilia on the walls in here.

Pleasant and attentive bar staff, a couple of friendly locals and best of ale great beer.

Scores highly and was a great place to round off a throughally good 2 week holiday in the North !

8.2/10? Seriously?? A fairly nice place, with a great selection of beers at very good prices (£2.65 average) for sure, but come on - it's not THAT good!

Excellant pub with friendly staff, and half a dozen cask beers that were varied but mainly local, Ulverston and Tirril to name but two.
Ulverston beer went but Landlord changed it but not until he had cleaned the pump through.
A warning: close in the afternoon even on Saturdays, reopen at 6.00 p.m.
hadthe food there which was good value and pretty good

Visited this pub with a couple of friends on a Wednesday lunchtime. It was very busy with a lot of people eating. Six real ales on tap; Young's Bitter; Tirril Brewery 'Old Faithful'; Ulverston Brewery 'Laughing Gravy'; Dent Brewery 'Golden Fleece'; Twaites 'Original'; and finally 'Thirst Class' from a brewery whose name I can't read from my notes. We did have half a pint of each of them and they were all excellent. The bar staff were pleasant and efficient and on the barmaid's recommendation we decided to stay and dine and had some of the finest fish, chips and mushy peas ever. As a plus the meals were 2 for the price of 1. Can't recommend this pub highly enough. Would have stayed longer but we had a train to catch. The Laurel and HArdy Museum is close by too - well worth a visit - if you are a fan.

i have been going into the stan laurel on and off for at least ten years, and it is nice to say that this pub has never been better. it used to be empty on a saturday night but since the new owners took it over, it has gone from strength to strength and rightly so. the beers are great (more stringers please as i need to try them) the ulverston beers are excellent and all beers are well kept. the food is excellent (i'm running out of superlatives here) and not ridiculously expensive. lots of laurel and hardy memorabilia which is great. give it a try you won't be disappointed.
