Very handy stopping off point while walking St Michael's Way today. Porcelain tiles in the entrance soon give way to more appropriate bare boards and the overall feel is one of cosiness with two one-tabled dining areas with open framing to the left of the entrance having particular appeal. There is a further dining area past these two tiny snugs with a larger more open-plan room to the right which is where the main bar is also situated. The Betty Stogs was good although not of exceptional clarity, also on sale were Doom Bar and Proper Job. Cider was Thatchers Gold unfortunately. We sat outside by the front door admiring the church although there is also a beer garden. Opening hours are all day Friday to Sunday and 11.30-3, 5-10.30 for the rest of the week (contrary to what the underwhelming website states). We were the only people there so maybe it suffers from its rural location but it's certainly worth a short detour off the A30. paul_d102 - 24 Sep 2015 18:25 |

The pub changed hands towards the end of last year and is now being run by a couple who know how to run a pub properly. The food is excellent and the beer kept in very good condition. The interior of the pub has remained the same with old wooden partitioning dividing up the eating area. Well worth a visit ridleyman - 10 Mar 2011 17:21 |
Always pay this pub a visit while holidaying in Cornwall, it's a nice retreat from other places that get too busy. Apart from the exterior signs, nothing changes, which is why this place remains one of the gems in Cornwall. The interior is great, unpoilt several partioned areas and an area for drinking near the bar. A Skinners ale and Sharps Doom Bar is on offer from the cask on the stillage, both in good condition, the correct temperature for a cool evening, but maybe not cold enough for a hot day. Food is excellent, taken time over and prepared by a proper chef, there's some interesting specials at very reasonable prices, the same prices you'd pay for normal pub grub at other pubs. brisk - 29 Sep 2009 14:11 |
