Came here for the second time, it appeared closed the first time we were here.

$pm on a Wednesday an no one in, had a pint of Pheasantry which Weights & Measures would have had a field day with, but I couldn't be bothered.

Interestingly they advertise pizza and drinks deals on Thursdays and Sundays but there were two posters in the gents with different prices! Suggests a couldn't be bothered attitude.

Won't be going back in a hurry , there are better pubs in town.

The Castle Barge reminded me very much of Charters in Peterborough. It got me wondering if it was possible to do a crawl of pubs on barges up the East Coast mainline. Does Grantham have a barge selling beer?! This was a nice and cosy place with a downstairs bar and a smaller sundeck upstairs, in addition to plenty of seating on the riverbank. Ales were Full Mash Warlord & Northern Lights, Northallerton Yorkshire Pale IPA & Pheasantry Lincoln Tank Ale. Ciders were Weston's Hand Brake & Old Banger, Abrahalls Lily The Pink & Black Rat Perry. CAMRA discounts on pints, but not halves. But another Newark pub worthy of a visit.

An unusual and interesting pub that is actually a moored barge near to the Newark Castle on the Trent. Good quality ale, the Lincoln Green ale was excellent. The young bar staff were efficient and knewa bout their ales and the history of the barge itself. The pub food on offer looked good and reasonably priced. An enjoyable place to include in any visit to the delightful market town of Newark.

Can't for the life of me remember the Bitter that was on, but there were two decent real ales and various other Lagers and Ciders. The place is slightly tired looking now, but still a novel place to go for a pint with a good feel.
