This place is not really a pub and shouldn't really be on bite.
I understand that it is a decent high class place it's just that i am a working class bloke that like a pint whilst wearing walking boots....

Lanes is my first 9/10 rating. This is my 226th review on BITE and so far I have never rated any pub, bar or restaurant higher than 7.

This is our favourite bar and restaurant and my wife and I come here about once every six weeks or so. We always eat out at least twice a week and always compare wherever we are to Lanes - and Lanes always comes out as superior! The ambience is superb - contemporary style with structural glass walls melded within an Edwardian Rectory and the welcome is always warm and friendly. The bar only has one ale but, much to my wife's delight, sells champagne by the glass (6 a time). The food, cooked to order, is superb and nothing is too much trouble for the chefs or waiting staff. The only downside is that the menu could be a shade more extensive and the range of extras a little more varied and exciting.

This is the only place locally that you are able to dress for dinner and not feel out of place. Unfortunately, in this day and age, dressing for dinner for most people seems to imply denim jeans - we even saw one diner wear a stetson throughout his meal without the excuse of being American - this place really should have a dress code!

As far as value goes, I consider it excellent value for money - typically our evening comprises a pint of ale, 2 glasses of champagne, a shared bottle of wine, two three-course meals and coffees for about 80.

Lanes would have scored 10/10 but for only having one ale and a menu that could be a shade more extensive.
