Definitely wants to be a restaurant rather than pub. Food good but overpriced for frozen veg. Bar staff not very friendly unless you are in the Saga Brigade. Whole place has been done up to a nice standard but for some reason they have omitted to sort out the frankly horrid toilets.

As stated previously, this is more of a guest house/restaurant than a pub now however my 6X was excellent. Standing room only at the bar, otherwise you need to sit at a table. Lunchtime special of home made chicken mushroom and cheese pie with the trimmings (other choices too) was worth writing home about, especially for 5. Service was good, albeit a trifle slow maybe due to the food preparation times. If you are hungry and thirsty this is the place for a quality inexpensive meal and a pint.

This pub has recently had a very thorough re-fit (it was pretty good before) and has changed considerably. While before it was an all-round pub, it has tried hard to re-position itself as an almost-gastro-pub. The ordinary sandwiches on the menu have gone, replaced by much more up-market choices. The prices for food have risen proportionately. (Apparently the restaurant now seats "up to 80".) This has meant a change in focus from the beer (not bad, but now a sideline) to "quality eating". So it's not as much a place to drop by any more, but a place to go for a meal. It's not bad at what it does, but it's not really a "pub" any more, but a restaurant which happens to serve drinks.
