user reviews of the Fox Inn, Roby Mill

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Service was poor when we visited the pub on Sunday 5pm 1st May. Unfortunately, we waited fifty minutes to be served before the starters came. We had asked for the children's meals to come at the same time as our starters, this didn't happen. The children enjoyed their meals when they eventually did arrive and the waitress was apologetic, however, the manageress offered no apology and said that 'you can't please everyone'. Needless to say, we will not bother in the future. I tend to agree with Aristocrat "steel window treatment" if customer service isn't very high on the list of priorities then people will go elsewhere.

The pub has recently has new management who have tried to possibly put their own stamp on the place and it simply hasn't worked. The pub was fine before but has now been painted in cold colours with a lot lot of pictures of local areas taken from the walls which makes the pub look a bit bare. The bar has been redone with a minimalist look but it simply just looks cold to me. It would be fitting in a city centre bar, but not in a rural pub. We booked to have food in the restaurant where all of the usually friendly female waiting staff have now been replaced by men who are either just new to the job or just don't care. We had to repeatedly ask for service and didn't even get asked if we wanted desert/coffees so just left. The same chef is there and the food is still good, but the whole atmosphere in the place has changed for the worse. I've been going to the pub for 15 years and I'm pretty sure it'll be heading for the "steel window treatment" soon if you know what I mean and it will be a real shame. I'll keep going to see if it improves and post back.

Three real ales including 2 from local prospect brewery when I was there.

Reasonably priced food.
