user reviews of Wheatsheaf, Northleach

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Some criticism on here and yes, more tables could be designated for drinkers - but overall, it's hard to be critical when the food hits as high a standard as this. I've paid more in far more unimpressive places that use and abuse the 'gastropub' name. This earns it (the twice baked souffle was to die for) while service is charming and unfussy. Very much a foodie heaven although the village is gorgeous and the building in which the pub is housed absolutely stunning.

Yes, it's more of a restaurant than a pub, and the food was top-notch as we found. There was apparently only one ale on, Sharp's coaster however.

The staff were efficient and well-mannered, and with proper table service. A hard-headed commercial undercurrent was perhaps made unnecessarily apparent by an "optional" 12.5% service charge added onto the bill though. Why must places do this?

I won't give a rating, as the site is not really for restaurants, even though this is certainly a good one.

Snarling Mallard sums this place up well. Very little room for drinkers to sit but there were a number of locals around the bar. Hook Norton Hooky bitter and not very local London Brewing Co Chelsea Blonde were being served. Both in good condition.

The beer (Bath's Barnsey) was well kept but this place has been turned over to food with only a small bar area as you go in for drinkers. The place seemed to be populated with UTOA types bragging about how well off they were.

Extremely smug. Has had a rather brutal renovation to turn it into a wooden floored, shaker style painted place with faux chandaliers and candles everywhere. I believe they fancy themselves as a foodie place but my French is probably not up to ordering it.
