Spent last Friday evening in this pub with about 30 relatives of a similar age who were staying at the attached Premier Inn. Ate in the bar and the food was more than adequate and very reasonably priced. The staff in the bar however made a lie of my earlier comments to my relatives that Yorkshire was a very friendly place. They were sullen and where possible served friends and locals first. Despite spending a good deal of money in the restaurant and bar and being resident in the hotel the manager asked us all to leave at 11.30 as unlike you lot I have a bed to go home to
We left and went to the nearby KYTE hotel whose staff was happy to serve the residents amongst us with alcohol and the rest of us with tea, coffee and soft drinks. I recommend others to head straight for the Kyte or Pontefract town centre and give this pub a very wide berth.

A great stop over on the Great North Road if you're heading North or South. Cold lager and a couple of steaks for a tenner prove very welcome after a long drive. Steaks alway of better quality than you would expect for that price. A typical group pub which empties out after everyone has eaten (dead by 2100).
Cheap wine by the bottle worth a mention too. Not bad at all. Would visit again.

A chain pub suffering from many of the shortcomings of chain pubs. Beer Theakstons so cold you could get internal frost bite, totally tasteless. The staff were pleasant enough but it was obvious their heart wasn't in it.
The food was poor, I ordered the combo pie it turned out to be a microwaved catering pie served with some tinned peas and chips thrown on top. Fortunately I was with a group so we were able to take advantage of the 2 for the price of one offer, even then it was poor value.
Not recomended for beer drinkers or those with any liking for pub food.
