user reviews of Station Hotel, Kiveton Park

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

a traditonal brick-built pub, sat by the kiveton park railway level crossing.
the place had been getting a bit run down, and closed recently for re-furb.
it is now open as a "freehouse" and is run by the landlord from the Midland pub at Killamarsh.
***
the pub has a fair sized car park to the rear, with outdoor smoking area.
inside, the central bar serves a public bar and lounge.
the bar has darts, pool table & plasma tv.
the larger lounge is split into 2 areas, and used mostly for dining. seating for about 60-70.
whilst there is a low population locally, the place seems quite popular with visitors, and there were many diners on the saturday evening we called.
***
the menu is on nightly, with an "italian" night on saturdays.
tuesday quiz, sunday kareoke, friday disco.
there were 4 cask ales on at our visit, but I found them slightly pricey at 2.70/2.75 a pint.
***
verdict:
scores ok for the meals and cask ale choice, but the beer is pricey.
a 7 from me.

Re-opened in December, and in 2009 it just gets better & better - They do REAL food at good prices, and it is 'real' food made by a 'real' chef, particularly on Italian night, which is Saturday - easily as good as anywhere down in Sheffield, & you don't have pay for parking or come back with no stereo!

The food generally is superb; not the usual re-heated, way over-priced dross you get at most places these days, where the word 'cooked' should never ever be used; just 're-heated'!

I think it's bl***y superb - More people should try it, & support places like this that are trying to give people value for money & are not just about the profit.

They also have a good selection of real ales, which is always nice to see - Try the Red Dwarf - it is A1, & the Deuchars IPA is always good - A round of applause is in order I think.
