I thought it a really good pub- food was excellent. Pretty perfectly balanced- wasn't cheap but came up with the goods for what you paid food wise.

More important don't know of a pub in the area as good if your after something that comes up with individuality - good food - not too big. Not too small.

A good old school type of place with a nice land lady. Soft Irish

Popped in for a half for the first time - a clean and nice place with good service.

I hadn't been for a long while, and thought I'd drop in after an all-morning meeting on Monday.

Regretably winter opening hours early week are from 15.00 onwards, so I had to hurry on to the Tankard 176 - 178 Walworth Road SE17 1JL.

I can't find that one on the site -but it does a very reasonable pint of Greene King IPA on hand pump for 2.45.

It is a Greene King Retailing Ltd managed house, but a friendly and homely welcome from the regulars and behind the bar Tom Mitchell, who told me that he had previously kept pubs around Islington, and had known the pubs around City Road Basin - the Wenlock Arms, Prince of Wales, and the Narrow Boat - well.

A classic pub in an unusual location - a little oasis of the Walworth road. The pub is nicely laid out with muted decor and thankfully no slot machines, blaring music or big screen TV.
There is not only a great selection of beer, but also of wine and spirits (esp. whisky). The food is consistently good, maybe a tiny bit pricey, but the portions are large and always satisfying. The Sunday Roast is particularly impressive.
To top it all off, the staff are very friendly & professional (mostly from the southern hemisphere!) and the clientele are a nice mix of old regulars, families and students.
In summer the beer garden is a lovely spot for some drinks.

I quite agree with previous post, there is nothing special about this place, its beers, its service and deff its location...
