user reviews of the Queens, Windermere

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Pleasant pub, good location in the town centre, stopped by here a couple of times when visiting Windermere. Not an unfriendly place but you do get the impression it is a locals' pub. There were a couple of real ales on, no issue with the quality.

Good beer, good food and good service, but a bit too much focus on the locals.

Disappointing and overpriced , better pubs and value are available.

I took my family to The Queens for lunch. We were impressed by the building, its location and the interor, where it is obvious much effort has been put into the decor. The service was good, although we were the only ones dining (never a good sign). However, once the food finally turned up after a long wait, things steadily went downhill. The kids' meals were fine, and in fact, the scampi was very nice, although the sausages appeared to be the cheapest supermarket fare available. My other half and I went for the special, as the description sounded very appetising; Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and all the trimmings. Bad move. The presentation was sloppy, the meat dry and unappetising. The Yorkshire pudding was burnt and ruined. The potatoes were burnt and flavourless, and the other vegetables were under-cooked and bland beyond belief. No seasoning was evident. I complained, and received an apology and assurance that we would get replacement dishes to our satisfaction. Another long wait ensued, then we were basically served identical dishes, although the Yorkshire pudding was now half the size, and I now had a sprig of undercooked and inedible cauliflower to look forward to. The Yorkshire pudding and vegetables had been strategically turned so that the blackened and charred side was face down. I once again complained, and we were not charged for the delayed and ruined meals, only the kids' meals. We left vowing never to return, and retreated into the Windermere rain feeling extremely disappointed, frustrated and still hungry. Never again!
