The pub is now being run by Provenance Inns who run around 6 other pubs in North Yorkshire. There is usually a concentration on food but the Punch Bowl still has the feel of a village local. There is a pleasant outside sitting/eating area at the back of the pub (spoilt by smokers if you are eating). On the plus side it was a pleasant surprise to find Rudgate Bycyleale being served as Provenance pubs usually only serve Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors beers.

This pub has recently been taken over by a new couple and they have completely turned the place around. The food is great and the staff are incredibly helpful and entertaining. Open fires, theme evenings, well kept beer (which is becoming increasingly difficult to find) and a warm and welcoming welcome. The venue is set in the beautiful (and unaffordable) village of marton cum grafton which is worth seeing even if you dont venture to the punch bowl. I have just booked our Christmas dinner here and will let you know how it went.

Morrissey and fox can they run pubs ? well they managed to close our local. the pub later on reopened the only trouble is getting served standing five minutes to be served even that you been noticed when the staff walk off talking, and in the end i did get served, had my drink and left for the last time at that pub, my money not good for then its there loss, also its a no hat pub.

Morrissey & fox have handed back the keys now. Future uncertain.

A quote from the pair on the closure:

"...we did regenerate what was a very tired establishment facing imminent closure and manage to give it one hell of a make-over and breathe another year and a half of life into it. Its a shame our other work commitments didnt allow us to give it the extra attention we should have given it to help battle through such difficult circumstances.

If Zaphod's apt comment is anything to go by, it wasn't broke but they tried to fix it - a mistake which has sounded the death knell for many once excellent pubs.

Oh how I wanted to love this place. I drove all the way to York for work instead of taking the much faster train, just to try this place following the programme on telly. The Mo-Fo beer is very good. Not as good as the product from the York brewery or Black Sheep, but still very drinkable. Trouble is the pub itself. Its sterile and devoid of any pubby comfort. As said previously its a restaurant that serves beer. Rule 1: never ever ever ever let a restauranteur remodel a pub. They will ruin it. Everything that makes a pub a pub has been purged from this place. I feel sorry for the village locals.
