Terrible pub which is in bad need of repair and decoration inside and out, I went there once and it looked like everyone was high including the bar staff the atmosphere was not a relaxing one and I left after one pint also a place where the police are called on a regular basis best thing to do is knock it down.

Another rough pub on just off Star Hill. Having played Darts there many years ago I know it can be intimidating for locals

From the outside, The Rising Sun has the appearance of an enticing local: the kind of pub that suggests real warmth and character. This however, is sadly not the case when within. A musty, unpleasant smell wafted around which made breathing a little uncomfortable. Interior wise, the pub has a tatty, worn and neglected feel about it. Wallpaper is nicotine-stained and rotting, art prints dated and everything about it seems to be throwback to the 1970s. Entertainment on offer seemed to consist of a jukebox (switched off), a fruit machine and an ancient television showing Coronation Street on our visit. There is second room which was not explored. The clientele were seemingly all on first name terms with each other and it was pleasing that here at least has a community feel about it. Drink selection was sadly unimaginative and primitive. There were no real ales and was somewhat taking aback when the landlady almost barked this fact to me in a militaristic manner. She perked up when I asked for a Stella, at least. To conclude: whilst I left semi-pleased that I had discovered a local with a life, I was disappointed all the same with the choice and err, the smell. If they could do something about the latter and improve the drink selection, then I may be more open to the idea of a return visit.

This pub is the worst pub in the world. I am yet to find a pub that would rival this for poor atmosphere, and people in there are all unemployed spending their benefits. Well okay, it just seems that way. I would NEVER go in there, again. Once was enough for me to be scared enough to leave after my pint.

Neglected two room corner pub right by the road. Just outside the town, and just outside the residential area. Ex-Truman. Landlady has been there a while, and is from a pub family, having been brought up in the George Inn (now the George Vaults) in Rochester High Street. Pub was altered in the 70s, but still has some original Truman features, such as the engraved mirror in the pool room. It is sadly neglected these days, and the exterior is off-putting, but the landlady is friendly enough. Keg ale and lager, and small selection of bottles.

The sense of the old pub is still present like a ghost, while the weight of passing time lies heavy on the place. People come here to chat and drink while waiting to die, and the youngsters just pass through on their way to the nightclubs in town.
