Pretty good given its location by the A4 and its previous incarnation as part of the Blubeckers chain. I very much enjoyed a good Ploughman's with pork pie, ham, cheese and a delectable apple chutney while ales - from Ringwood and others - were good. The public transport unfriendly location mitigates against getting trolleyed.

We popped in here for a late afternoon beer about 10 days ago. Although there was a good selection of ales on offer and the three of us chose differently, we agreed that all had been chilled to the point that any flavour was lost.

Primarily an eating house. Menu looked interesting. Decor good.
We went there for a drink as they let dogs in. Of the advertised six real ales one pump was out of use, and of the four beers we tried two tasted off. Also the prices are astronomical - I mean, 3.90 for a 3.9% beer?
Also they need to employ more bar staff. Large queues built up as a lot of the staff only go behind the bar if there is no food to be delivered.

Just opened by a small pub chain after transformation from a Bluebeckers restaurant - I think they've made a really nice job of the interiors - spacy without being cavernous, with mismatched tables and bookshelves giving a homey feel. Pleasant service, food very fresh - although my one "complaint" is there is hardly any vegetarian choice. A few starters, but only ONE out of 19 main dishes (moussaka - there's also gnocchi but that includes parmesan which is nearly always made with rennet). Pity because the side salad I had with a starter to make up a main was really good, with a lovely apple and ginger dressing. So I will be taking meat-eating friends but I think veggie guests might feel a bit side-lined by the menu. Can't comment on the beer as I don't drink it, but there's a good choice of wine.

Recently purchased by Brunning & Price I just wanted to say well done to all at the Horse and Groom. I ate there yesterday (Fish Pie) and it was faultless. Friendly staff, well kept beer (6 on tap) and great food lets hope it keeps up as Ill be recommending them from now on!
