Seen bands here and it was like having a group play in one's living room at home. Outside the music scene it resembled a pub in The Sweeney, not for the clientele, who were okay, but the decor, which struck me as very 1970s. I almost expected Jack Regan to come staggering out and do a quick song and dance with George Carter. Anyway, the beer was okay and staff friendly. Overall I've always found this pub interesting and belonging to that class of increasingly rare old boozers that time has almost forgot. However, in recent weeks it has undergone a major revamp so I have that to look forward to.

I have not marked this pub for simple reasons, I am tired from a hard days work. There is a new owner, so it has received a soft makeover - the clientele have always been responsive, chirpy and non-threatening. Sometimes attracts a small number of friendly non-hetero types and has done for some while. The pool room section has always been quite a nice touch with stained diamond glassed windows and an exposed brick wall. Being a Shepherd Neame, I tried the Spitfire, and for a Shep, it was great, not too hoppy like they can be. The music was divided between some classical tones and happy house...in fact, only one of these songs were played......it was an enjoyable evening pint.

Not bad at all, quite a pleasant place and the ale is pretty decent most of the time.

Perhaps the marginal exception to the rule concerning drinking in Ramsgate town centre, that you don't go into any pub from which you can't see the sea when outside if you want
1) Real ale,
2) Locals who look as if they once had mothers.
