As a hotel it was OK, the food OK and a decent breakfast. Dartmoor beer was on the way out but they didn't take it off although it tasted like warm vinegar. London Pride was fine. Nothing special although the beach was fabulous that evening.

I'm very disappointed that the front bar has been turned into a restaurant. The owners have made a new lounge bar in the back of the hotel, but it does not have the same pub feel as the old bar, and in fact it would have made a lovely restaurant.

Personally, I think they have lost an asset.

Having said that, the food is plentiful and great value and the beer is always good.

Called in Wednesday and was served several delicious cool but not too cold perfectly kept Trelawney from St Austell by a chatty friendly bar maid.
Went back Thursday drooling for more to find the Trelawney had been replaced by Dartmouth, also from St Austell. The beer was warm and sour and it was obvious the pipes had not been pulled through before the pub opened that morning. The (different) bar maid changed the beer without an apology but the second pint was no better. How they can be 'Cask Marked' is beyond me.

The Long bar at the side was a good drinking hole. It's in the GBG but the beer range on our visit was disappointing, Bombardier and London Pride. Nothing from the west country. London Pride was good condtion, 3.30 pint-Not necessarily "cheaper in the public bar"! The bar was atmospheric with local drinkers and live music..good craic but get some local brews on!
