Agree that the atmosphere has improved with the new landlord. The new one appears to be going for the food market and the sky tv has gone along with most of the pictures. The whole place is lighter it used to have a dingy feel to it. The garden is still good. The prices remain on the high side even for Canterbury.

New landlord took over in January and the place is now a much friendlier place to go for a drink. Good range of beers and an expanding wine list. All the televisions, except one, have been removed and the pub now seems to aim for the quality food market. Great selection of boardgames and perhaps the biggest pub garden I have ever seen - this pub is going places!!

Although I've never encountered the same surly behaviour as thepaul I have to say this is not the most friendly of pubs. There often seems to be a cliquishness about the place.
The beer is Shep Neame and not at all cheap.
I tend to use this place if I have time to kill until my train arrives, as the east station is only a couple of mins walk away.

Really gone down hill since it changed hands.

Visited the pub yesterday 12/04 and it was very busy.
Its more a eating place than a drinking place.

The have a good selection of wines and three real ales, Masterbrew, Spitfire and Early bird.

At 3.10 for a pint of Spitfire, I thought this was a bit over the edge.
