Great pub, ignore the earlier comments the new landlord has really cleaned this place up and it is everything a local should be - plus it does good beer - in fact the only place in plungington i can think of that does good beer + no chavs - amazing achievement. Support it and get there!

Since December 2009 this pub has been transformed by the new Land Lady (Sue) and her husband (Graham). It is clean, tidy, friendly and serves good beer (inc cask). The new management do not tolerate any problem customers or under age drinkers and is a great place to go for a drink, relax and have a laugh. There are numerous large flat screen TV's to watch in HD and a digital juke box with tens of thousands of tracks. The pub now has it's pool, darts, cards and dominoe teams back and has a weekly quiz with a cash prize and "open the box" type of draw. Live bands regularly play at the weekends.

In essence The Eldon is everything a local pub should be so call in and have a drink. Pubs like these are are closing down permanetly all the time, so please support your local.

I've removed the awful slanging match that was going on here.

been going in the eldon for years and will continue to do so. its as proper "local". some people will just complain about anything and maybe out of jealousy. its a lot cleaner now the current landlord and landlady have it. the only people i have seen going up and down the stairs are the landlords family as it is the only entrance to their own home. hope the eldon is still here in years to come!!!

What can one say about the Eldon Hotel that is not detrimental,
Well it's hardly ever open, That's a good point.
It's tucked away in a back street, you can't see it easily, That's another good point.
It keeps getting shut down by the police, Another good point, Shame it isn't closed permanently until someone is found who can run this pub & turn back the clock by two years.
I had my gripes with the landlady of the time but her and spouse could sure run a pub, old school.
This is one pub that should be turned into student accommodation & quickly or get someone (In or back)who knows how to rejuvenate what was a good back street local.
