An old-fashioned pub accessed by central front door with a cluttered room on the right set up as a tearoom/gift shop with only a couple of lager taps and a nicer room to the left being the main bar and dining area. A couple were singing the praises of their food but I was there for a beer. A guest beer from Tring Brewery was advertised but unavailable leaving a choice of Greene King IPA or Doom Bore/Gloom Jar. I decided the latter was the safer bet but only just and I wasn't in the least bit tempted to stay for another. Although the staff were perfectly polite I feel the pub could be so much better. To be fair it is an attractive building with outside seating to the front, a sizeable garden behind accessed from the side and dog-friendly.

I visited this pub the other day with a couple of friends for some lunch. Thoroughly enjoyed the outing. The 5.99 deal for lunches was a great outcome and such a lovely environment to be in. The food was amazing, real thin crust home made pizzas which was a delight. The girls and I will definitely be returning very soon!

6th Aug 2011. Must be one of the worst Pub Restaurants I have been to in ages. Very slow service, waited for an hour for the bread, not the starter, that was another 35 mins. Then it was not eatable. Main was no better than something you would knock up at home in a 20 mins after being at work all day, pudding was another mistake, should not of ordered it.

Stay away, your wasting your money?

We were looking forward to a quiet afternoon drink in a friendly village pub - but that's not what we got! We noticed a few balloons & streamers so asked if there was a party. We were told yes but it was ok - it was the landlord's 50th & it was out in the back garden. As we were sitting inside the pub, we thought it would be fine. However, after ordering the (over-priced) drinks, we sat down & only then noticed the huge bouquet of 50th balloons on each table, which blocked our view of each other as we tried to chat.
We then noticed the band! Quite possibly the worst singer in history started up singing the most dreary songs possible (starting with Phil Collins Another Day in Paradise, a song about homelessness!) for the birthday boy! The joss-stick burning in the bar caused all our drinks to taste rank (who burns joss-sticks in a pub, especially one that serves food?!) What with the endless balloons, streamers, birthday cards, & dire band, we felt like unwanted guests at a private party - and for that privelege we paid for a round of drinks we didn't finish due to the taste of joss-sticks! It was a real sour note to what, up until we entered that pub, had been a lovely day out!

This pub is a real find. The decor is warm and inviting, the staff are friendly and attentive. We ate in the restaurant and the food was first class. A great selection of Italian food as well as well as superb steaks (my favourite). The service was impeccable and the when we received the bill we couldn't believe what good value it was. It is also very kid friendly. The beer garden is large with panoramic views across the neighbouring country side. The landlord, Phil, was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We went back the following week to check out the Sunday roasts with all of our family and they lived up to the same high standard as the Italian menu and were also very well priced. I think that we may be using the Bell for our regular family get together on a Sunday :0)
