Visited recently after playing cricket against the local team. The pub sposors the local team and we were given free bangers, mash and peas with gravy.
The beer was great and the view from the garden was very pleasing.
I was told that the landlord is a pillar of the local community, very generous and helpful to all his customers and villagers alike.
That's just what a good local should be like. Great stuff. Well worth a visit.

Good pub. Harvey's (Local Beer) is always on offer and a couple of guest ales that keep changing. At least three lagers are available including 4% Stella at a good £2.90. Atmosphere is always welcoming. Good to have a few beers on a pleasant Tuesday evening when they host a quiz night.

We have been doing a mini tour of Kent and stayed at the 'Bear' for one night in the Burwash Motel which is part of the 'Bear'. Booked a table for our evening meal the service was good but the food could have been better. My Wife had the Sausage and mash which she said was ok I had the Steak and Harvey ale pie, the pie was fantastic but the rest of the meal was quite poor veg not cooked and the meal came with sunte potatoes and not new as ordered and one of the potatoes was rotten. Had deserts which were free after the problems with my meal. The Harveys best was very good. Now to the room. The room was very tired and in need of attention the handle to the shower/toilet was coming away from the door and there was a lot of black mould around the shower. Overall we thought the room was no better than average. Have stayed in worse but have stayed in a lot better. The full English breakfast was very good but food was left uncovered in the bar!! It seems there was a problem in the kitchen as we were not the only ones to get items not ordered. Friendly staff but it is the little details that need looking at.

I have used the pub many times and dozens around this area. Does anybody know what happened to the "Kicking Donkey" pub near here?
Also I think this website should be renamed as "Bite in the Evening" as everybody seems to rate the food nowadays rather than the beer which "allegedly" is the forum for this website.

A freehouse with one of the best views from the garden that I have seen. The ordinary lunch-time bar food yesterday was very good (home made) and the John Harvey was well kept. I'll be back when I pass this way again.
