user reviews of the Sovereign Inn, Huddersfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

We have used this pub many times in the last few years for a meal and a drink - and it used to be really good with a happy family atmosphere. We called today and the atmosphere was totally different. Grumpy barman took our order, waitress with a very messy apron served our meal. The leek, ham and chicken pie had been sat in the oven for hours. The chips were like those horrible 'economy pack, supermarket cheapest' oven chips which were almost dry. So ... no friendly atmoshere, no decent grub and no helpful service. Needless to say we will NOT be going there again.

Called in for lunch at just after 1:00pm. Not busy, got our drinks and ordered our food by ten past one.
At quarter to two we were still waiting for lunch. We asked the waitress for an update and she replied they'd just recieved the order(??)
We got up, paid for our drinks and left.
Appalling service.

Deeply disappointed with this pub. We arrived at 1.10 p.m. today, well ready for lunch. Ordered our drinks and sat down to look at the menu. It didn't take us long to decide what we wanted and we ordered very quickly.

The drinks were fine, good quality, no complaints there. The food looked great BUT we never got to taste it. At 1.55 p.m. our meals still hadn't arrived, despite having asked ten minutes earlier how long they would take. (We're not sure but we think the waitress had muttered something about having only just received the order when we enquired. And there were people sitting in our area when we arrived who had clearly waited as long, if not longer, than we were doing to get served.)

We paid for our drinks and left, expressing our displeasure. Just as we were leaving our food arrived, too late; their loss. I'm sure it was lovely but there is no way either of us is prepared to wait well over three quarters of an hour to get served at lunch time.

We received no apology and no explanation as to why our meals were so late.

We have just finished eating our lunch, at home, at 3.00 p.m.

We'll never, ever, go back to the Sovereign.

Definately just another eatery - drinkers not particularly welcome.
