user reviews of the Rose and Crown, Bulford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After a long walk on the Plain, I really fancied a pint, and if possible, a sandwich. Local village pubs were all shut until the evening; Bustard Inn and Stonehenge are both gone. Eventually came across the Rose and Crown.

There were half a dozen locals in the bar; dining room was closed, no food. Choice of cask - none; Greene King IPA only. The pint was good. Service however was not good - the barmaid was only interested in her gadget. Staff need to learn the basics of customer service!

This pub used to be okay and was popular with the close by Boscombe Down Friday lunchtime crowd - but, it appears to be under new management. I went a couple of weeks ago and I have to say, the place was empty, the service was awful and i wouldn't feed the food to pigs. It is by far and away and without a shadow of a doubt, the worst pub food i've ever had the displeasure to have put in front of me, 40 minutes after ordering, in an empty pub.

Was stationed in Bulford in the sixties and this pub was our 'local',
every so often my mate and myself return to Bulford and we always make a point of calling in to this pub and have our lunch and a pint......This pub will always have a place in our hearts, it was known in the sixties as 'The Ponderosa'.....still a good boozer!

Ok sort of pub, but the combination of limited beer and too many loud squaddies (are there any other kind?) didn't do it for me. Convenient if you happen to be stuck in Bulford (and the Kiwi is a complete non-starter) but I wouldn't make the effort to come here.

Friendly village local. Although they 'only' do Greene King, it's a decent pint. Surprising to find a pub so quiet on a Friday night - but then it does have a lot of room for people to spread out.
