| Wanting to leave Newark to do a couple of country pubs, I set out on a bus journey up the Great North Road and walked 15 minutes down the lane to the Crown only to find it closed on my Saturday evening visit. It was just after 2:45 when I arrived. There was a sign on the door with opening times that was blank(!) and a locked door. Not sure whether this pub only opens in the evening or if it is closed for good. May give it another try some time in the future. | Called in last night on basis of last review (albeit a while back!) certainly doesn't seem to have changed, nice atmosphere, friendly landlord, good selection of beers in and an open fire. Will definitely be going back. Proper English village local. psychonaut_one - 4 Feb 2009 15:39 |
| A wonderful pub, with everything you need from a village local. Good ales (two bitters on handpump), cheerful landlord and landlady, the best (really!) roast beef that we could ever remember having as a pub Sunday roast. Friendly locals too.
