Returned to the area this year (2011) and found time has stood still in the village, as hoped! Pub was the same pleasant friendly place, and the food just as good as before. The hand pulled beer was excellent.

Pub was refurbished apparently in '05 or '06. St. Austell brewery. But still looks unspoilt very old traditional 17th? century building. Low beamed ceilings, usual dark red floral carpet, cozy atmosphere. Found bar and (especially)serving staff extremely friendly and helpfull. No funny looks when strangers turn-up! Quaint front dining rooms, eat in main bar if preferred, or outside courtyard was nice in the sun. Heaters were present for cooler times, and smoking was allowed in this area.Locals,we Brits and foreign tourists were present in the pub during our 2 week stay in the village.
We ate there 5 times and were impressed with the Q&Q of the meals. Newish chef I believe, and works hard. Varied menu, and honestly, I had the best chunk of "cod in beer batter" that I have ever had in my life. Cost for us was around 35-40 for 3 of us which includes our drinks.(tap water was offered without charge) We thought this was good value taking all into account. I dont like tipping, but I did at the King's Arms as it was well deserved.
Some have been known to slag-off St Austell's beer, but I can't understand why. Yes, the Trib, tinners and Proper Job share a generic flavour, But Me an' the Missus first found it in Hope Cove in Devon a couple of years ago,and were smitten by the stuff, a fragrant and smooth pint that slips down so pleasantly! Personal taste I 'spose.
We were there in June 2010, and we would hope to re-visit again if possible.

Has changed tenant last 12 months since I was here, and seems busier, nice and friendly. Tribute, Proper Job & Tinners plus Rattler, fairly typical St Austell range. Food seems busy and looked very good. Quiz on a Sunday night is very good. Recommended.
