user reviews of the Glen Hotel, Newtonmore

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Good beer and sound pub food served by attentive staff. There were two real ales on offer when I called including the deliciously hoppy and refreshing Cairngorm Brewery Caillie which was well kept. Had three pints and just had to return the following day for some more (and to check it wasn't a dream). The discount for CAMRA card holders is still offered - unfortunately, I'd left mine at home.

Selection of real ales limited but well kept. Bar staff seemed rather bored though certainly polite. Food quite good. Looking around town I doubt any of the other pubs would beat it in any way.

We ate in the restaurant and were very pleased with the food and the service. Then moved into the bar which caters well for families as well as others. Choice of well kept beers served cheerfully. There isn't an awful lot of choice in Newtonmore, so it's great that this pub does such a good job.

Although CAMRA rated, I was a little disappointed to find only Deuchars IPA and Old Speckled Hen on my visit both of which are very ordinary but the latter (all we tried) was well kept. (And, in fairness, the landlord had been let down by his beer suppliers.) A useful pub to stop at on the Sustrans Route 7.

Fine beer is served at this hostelry, one being 'Glenboggle', a house beer from the Isle of Skye. Has been voted Pub of the Year for Aviemore and the Cairngorm by the local CAMRA branch. Card carrying members of CAMRA get discounted beer which I thought was a nice touch. Food looked good but was not sampled.
