This is my local and it could be a cracking pub...if it wasn't for the beer and the food! It's a nice location next to the Birmingham to Worcester canal and there is a large garden which has been redeveloped and looks nice with lighting etc and a kids play area that my children appreciate. However the beer quality ranges from barely palatable to below-average and is always too cold. You wonder why Marstons allow their beer to kept so poorly. The problem is this pub must make them a lot of money - it is always busy assumingly because of where it is. Lying just the other side of the South Birmingham/Worcestershire border it is a haven for Brummies looking for a taste of the country. They can't all be first-timers so the mystery is why anyone would go out of their way to come back after visiting once. I live around the corner and call in occassionally so the kids can use the play area, or after walking the dog. I hope in vain that the beer will have miraculously improved, it never does. Oh and we've eaten here twice and whilst it was marginally better than the food, it was distinctly average and typically chain pub affair.

Had lunch here last week.

Staff very pleasant, the beer good. We had a shared platter - not recommended as it was all, very, deep fried. Just too greasy by far and tasteless.

They redeemed themselves with my steak - 14oz rib-eye and cooked perfectly - rare! So big I couldn't eat it all so the dog had the rest. My wife had a half chicken - again too much so again the dog had it.

Would go back but never have starters - main course is plenty.

I recommend this pub for its good service, well prepared food and friendliness.Just off the M42 Motorway, you'll be better off here instead of eating at Hopwood Services. Petrol station almost opposite too.
