This pub is based in a complex dominated by a large antiques centre. The River Crouch is just over the road and this weatherboarded pub makes it quite a picturesque scene. There were a number of staff around when we entered. But all of them decided to ignore us for a few minutes. An initial idea to eat here was rejected by the lack of any kind of welcome. Ales were Greene King IPA, Abbot & London Glory & Crouch Vale Brewer's Gold. Drinks were inordinately expensive. Our round for two came to £4.95. On handing the barmaid a £10 note, the barmaid asked if I'd got the 5p. I duly obliged and received just £5 change. Clearly Essex youngsters are not sufficiently skilled in mathematics! £5.05 for half of cider and a soft drink poured from a £1 carton from the fridge is a bit of a rip off. We left this pretentious place behind in search of a decent pub. Incidentally, I later noted that a micropub has opened in the Antiques Centre complex. I'm sure that is a far better option.

Been there lots of times was lovely at first but last time not so good.
We a had 1 pint of Stella 1 pint of cider 2 bags of plain crisps and got charged £14
Think that's a bit steep so we won't be going back. Shame I've been going to this
Pub of and on for 20 years

Pleasnatly surprised after reading the recent reviews. First visit here for about a decade, and has clearly changed into a gastropub first, boozer second - though can't blame the owners given the way the world is changing, excessive beer duty etc. Wasn't eating (though food did look good), but was impressed by the range of real ales available and by the friendly staff.

7/10

Booked for 7.30pn 28/09, arrived 7.25 given menus and drinks

Saw noone for HALF AN HOUR!!!-got so fed up decided to leave-tried to pay for drinks -again noone there-a rubbish place. It was not busy at all so I assume the waitress was having a smoke or possibly a nap?

Never go there again

Good food, very pricey, but work paid for it so im not that bothered!! Nice pint of adnams bitter. Very much of a foodie pub than a good beer establishment. Good staff, Dave was a good lad.
