Have been going to this pub for about 8 years and have always enjoyed the excellent beer and food.
It has changed hands recently, and on a recent visit the beer was still excellent - like a mini-Cumbrian beer festival, and the food good, but in general the service, while friendly, was a bit haphazard, and they seemed slightly overwhelmed. Hopefully this will only be teething problems, and the previous high standards will be maintained.

A very good village pub that is worth a visit.
I stayed at the pub for one night recently, wished that it could have been longer. The welcome from the management and staff was incredibly warm and friendly.
The food was excellent but be warned the portions are vast, especially after enjoying several pints at the bar. One couple there had all three courses, not sure where it went but they obviously enjoyed it.
An excellent range of beer was at hand, much of it from micro breweries.
The rooms were a little spartan for my liking but they did not spoil our stay. The breakfast was awesome, same portions as the evening meal. Ace.

Cannot fault this place. The range of beer (small micro breweries) was amazing; deserves its CAMRA recognition. Good food too. Very busy in comparison to the other 3 puibs (we only tried the Bulls Head and left because of the stale smell). Don't pass by.

Excellant large pub with up to 8 real ales on, visited May bank holiday and busy without being overcrowded, Keswick ale was to kill for. 3 other pubs in village so a good crawl.

A top class pub and great stop off point for travellers on the M6 - the pub is only 5 mins drive from junction 39. This pub is a regular entry in the good beer guide and the food is well above average.
