First time visitor to this pub, which has a great atmosphere. The Stowford Press was just the thirst quencher that I needed on arrival however the three real ales on offer were excellent, well kept and served with a smile. I did not eat on this visit but will be sure to return when I will report back, might even stay for bed and breakfast next time, the rooms looked excellent and real value for money. jlrdrinker2010 - 31 Aug 2010 18:12 |
The Prince Consort has recently changed hands and me and my family had a fantastic meal there. Everything cooked from fresh including vegetables (not like the sloppy frozen stuff you get in some pubs) and the best home-made chips ever. The staff were welcoming and friendly and we'll definitely be back again soon. leon75 - 23 Jun 2010 14:02 |

From the outside, looks like a traditional pub. The inside however has been gutted and turned into a modern, "trendy" restaurant and bar. Most of the seating is laid out in restaurant style, which means everyone just hangs out in the small bar area at the front. It's nice enough but has no atmosphere and is completely soulless. Seems totally out of place for a local village pub, though the garden may be a redeeming feature (it was closed when I visited). Uninspired choice of ales (Pride and Ringwood) but quality ok, plus the usual lagers. Service fine, but made difficult by the habit of locals to stand around at the bar (presumably due to not wanting to sit in restaurant-style chairs or on the very few sofas/armchairs) The style would be more appropriate in the city (and I would avoid it even there) but in Netley I just can't see the point. CAR CLAMPING IN OPERATION. WE DO NOT GIVE CHANGE FOR THE FRUIT MACHINE AS THE MACHINE TAKES BANK NOTES. THIS MACHINE (QUIZ) WILL BE TURNED OFF 10 MINUTES BEFORE CLOSING TIME. These are just some of the signs dotted about the place and contribute to a deeply unwelcoming atmosphere. Only redeeming feature was a decent pint of London Pride johnkn7 - 1 Jun 2006 13:43 |
