I liked this place. Multiple menu blackboards are usually a warning that you will be expected to eat a meal, but I was glad to see locals chatting over a drink and a tasty looking range of snacks to go with your beer as well as a full lunch menu. We ate, as it happened, and found the food excellent value.

Was sad to see that only one real ale pump was in action (there were signs that two was the norm), but an exemplary pint of Harveys Best came out of it.

This was a great, friendly pub. The Harvey's beer tasted fantastic. The menu is traditional and extensive - there really is something for everyone and it is well cooked and well presented, definitely represented good value for money. Real nice atmosphere, like you'd want a country pub to be.

We found the Swan to be a welcoming pub with a large menu, which is chalked up on several blackboards. They cater for most appetites from sandwiches up to steaks. The food is mainly your standard English pub fare including classics like scampi and chips and Ham, Egg and chips. I had a Chicken Caesar salad, which was well presented and had a reasonable amount of good quality chicken although just a bit expensive I felt at 9.95. My wife had Ham, Egg and chips which was the same price. Nice piece of ham and a generous amount of home cut chips which were very good. I had a pint of Harveys Sussex, which was ok but not brilliant. We were first people there so maybe they just had not pulled the beer through the pipes fully. Pudding was a cheese board for me which three large pieces of very nice local cheese. The selection of biscuits could have done with including a digestive or Ritz and consisted instead of cream crackers and water biscuits. At nearly 6.00 I think a little more imagination on the biscuit front could have been applied. But as I say the cheese was extremely nice. Wife had a Banoffee pie which was generously sized and well presented as well as tasting fantastic. All in all a good lunch time and I would certainly go back and give it another try.

The Swan has been under new management since August and thankfully it is pretty much unchanged. The new landlords (cousins) are keeping a good pub which is very popular locally. The Harveys Sussex on draft is usually very well kept as is the regularly changing guest ale. The blackboard menu is more affordable than before and offers some simpler choices as well as the more fancy.

Live music continues on occasional sundays. Looking forward to Ricci's barbecues in the summer!

One point: It can get very congested in the main bar area just inside the door. It would help no end if the two huge underused tables were replaced with a number of smaller ones which could be moved to one side if necessary.
